Walk a Marathon in a Lead Coat · 26 April 2020

Crossroads Lewis is a registered charity providing regular carer respite to those caring for a loved one at home. Our aim is to value carers, to give them time to themselves e.g. to attend appointments, socialise or rest. Crossroads helps to prevent carers from becoming ill through exhaustion.

Story

The Staff of the Western Isles Radiology department are raising money for 2 Charities; the Crossroads Lewis (a local charity who relieve stress on the persons or families caring for all age groups of people with physical, mental or sensory impairment.
They provide care at home to those suffering from a terminal illness and support families through our Overnight Palliative service.
And they provide care in exceptional circumstances for people of any age, living on their own
.). And the Royal Osteoporosis Society, (who provide education in bone health and strive for a cure for Osteoporosis).

The aim is for each member of the department to walk the equivalent of a 26 mile marathon in our lunch hours wearing a lead apron, over the course of a month. This equates to 1408 lengths of the x-ray corridor each. Lead aprons weigh approximately 8 kilograms but can vary with size.

(Radiographers/ Sonographers/Admin staff taking part includes; Jane, Karen, Ciara, Jen, Jennifer, Riona, Anna, Marie, Gemma, Christina, Shuna, Mike, Steve and Sarah)
