Story
On Sunday 10th December 2017, something very normal will happen – as volunteer radio presenter Dave Goodings opens his show on Radio Marsden. What’s not so normal though, is the setting… he’ll be in a wetsuit and scuba gear, at the bottom of a water tank 60ft deep, with only some safety divers for company. And there he will stay for over 5 hours... as his co-presenters, production team - and all of you - watch him through a glass window!
We're attempting to beat the previous record for the longest underwater radio broadcast of just over 5 hours, and raise a significant amount of money for Radio Marsden in the process. Every penny raised will help us continue to provide our services to the patients of the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Can Dave do it? Join us online via our website at www.radiomarsden.co.uk on Sunday 10th December from 10am to find out. You'll be able to listen to live radio coverage, and watch it all unfold via a live webstream too!
Radio Marsden is the radio station for the Royal Marsden Hospitals and is a registered charity. Volunteers work to ease some of the isolation that can be associated with a lengthy hospital stay. As we serve a world-leading specialist cancer hospital, in-patients may be admitted for longer than in general hospitals, and may have travelled a long way for their treatment. Presenters work to produce and present radio programmes, playing music requests made by patients, along with other music and speech programmes. Volunteers also spend time with patients on the wards, collecting requests and offering social interaction. Many patients tell us how much they enjoy the opportunity to chat with someone about topics other than their treatment.
Thanks to all our friends and supporters - we couldn't do it without you!
