RAD London Walkathon · 23 August 2021

Founded in 1841, the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) provides services to deaf people in their first or preferred language, usually British Sign Language (BSL). Our Vision: A future of opportunity, achievement and equality for deaf people.

Story

Miranda, Julia, Eve and Katie - the London Group of RAD Volunteers - are aiming to cover 384miles/618km over September to raise D/deaf awareness. This is the distance from LONDON -> EDINBURGH, as Scotland is where the first Deaf school in the UK was set up and the first country in the UK to grant British Sign Language legal recognition (BSL Act 2015). We hope these steps (and cycles!) will contribute to giant steps in the right direction to improve accessibility for D/deaf people.

We hope to round off this challenge with a Big Walk in Hyde Park on 3rd October 2021 at midday - all welcome!

Message Eve on 07540 065 094 if you'd like to get involved.

RAD's new mission and values are as follows:

RAD's vision: A future of opportunity, achievement and equality for deaf people

RAD's mission: Working in collaboration to innovate and deliver the services that deaf people want and need. Celebrating deaf culture and community.
