RAF Association Wings Appeal 2020
Campaign by The RAF Association (RAFA) (RCN 226686 (England & Wales) - SC037673 (Scotland))
In previous years, amazing RAFA branches have hit the streets and their local shops and raised essential funds to support the work of RAFA. This year this is a little more tricky and our amazing branches are going virtual and need you help!

Story

I am raising funds for the RAF Association Melton Mowbray Branch 2020 Wings Appeal by raffling off two Limited Edition Prints of the Melton Mowbray Spitfire.

In previous years, our branch has been out and about on the streets and in our local shops collecting donations via our annual Wings Appeal to support the RAF Community.

As this isn't an option this year, we have gone digital and encourage you to 'donate digitally' in what is the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

During 1940/41 the people of Melton Mowbray and surrounding villages collected money to pay for a Spitfire fighter. The aircraft was delivered to the RAF in early 1941 where it entered service with No 303 Polish Squadron and wore the name 'Melton Mowbray & District'.

On the 28th June 1941, 303 Sqn were given the task of providing high escort cover for Blenheim bombers from 11 Group Bomber Command, who had been tasked with attacking Comines power station as part of Circus 26.

Flying Officer Wojciech Kolaczkowski piloted the Spitfire MkIIb P8522 RF-W (Melton Mowbray & District) and became involved in a prolonged dog-fight with 5 ME 109’s West of Comines.

Flying low over the Luftwaffe fighter base at Desvres aerodrome he fired a short burst at a ME 109 on the ground, as a result the aircraft collapsed amidst a cloud of smoke.

This was the first of several ‘kills’ for the Melton Mowbray & District presentation Spitfire P8522.

In addition to the artist, the prints are signed by Air Marshal Philip Sturley CBE, MBE, FRAeS and limited to 70 copies.

Each entry to the draw costs £5.

Complete your bid in 2 easy steps:

1. Donate a minimum of £5 through our JustGiving Page here.

2. Forward your receipt email to meltonmowbrayrafa@gmail.com (This so that we can contact you to arrange delivery if you are the lucky winner.)

The winning name will be selected at random from all the entries after the draw ends on 30th September 2020.

Thank you for visiting our Melton Mowbray Spitfire JustGiving page.
