Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’ll be taking part in the Reading half marathon on 21st March 2010 to raise as much money as possible for the Motor Neuron Disease Association. Training for the marathon has been difficult at times with a couple of hurdles along the way (Xmas and a niggling knee problem), but I am now starting to get myself into decent shape in preparation for the big day!
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. In the UK at least three people a day die from MND. Life expectancy for most people with MND is just two to five years. MND is a devastating and fatal disease and yet few people really understand what it is or does. Up until a few years ago, I had no idea what MND was until my grandmother was diagnosed with this disease. The MND Association were instrumental with their support during this tough time. The MND Association is the only national organisation of its kind dedicated to working on behalf of people with MND, securing the care, resources and support they need, whilst promoting research into causes, treatments and a cure. Please help me to raise money for this cause and thank you so much for your support! Rahul
