Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Kenya Kesho Trust is a not for profit charity that runs and manages the Kenya Kesho Primary School for Girls.

Their mission is to educate girls from Mshiu Community who have the ability and motivation to go far beyond the essential basic education.

The Kenya Kesho School for Girls offers young girls from Mshiu Village a unique opportunity to be better educated, to be better informed and to be better prepared for secondary school and the future.

They offer a sustainable, quality education to these girls; an education which their families would not ordinarily be able to afford.

Research and programme experience suggest that building a decent school within a village and providing exciting, trained teachers, good teaching materials, discipline and hope with a reasonable curriculum and two nutritious meals a day are often enough to bring most girls into school – at least at the primary level – and encourages parents to get more involved in the education of their children.

The Kenya Kesho School for Girls will offer a superb primary education to a very high standard for the girl child. By setting an example we hope to attain the values of discipline, honesty and truthfulness and will change the ethos and acceptance of a poor primary education into one of excellence and achievement.

The Kenya Kesho School for Girls will help the girl child from Mshiu area to have a progressive primary education, teaching her the basics of education and development and progress for herself, her family and ultimately her community.

THE NEED

Kwale County is one of the poorest counties in Kenya, underperforming in all development indicators and ranking in the bottom 15% in education.

Kwale County has a child rich population where 0 – 18 year olds constitute 78% of the total population with very high household sizes.
80% of the population are subsistence farmers.

It is a well documented fact that by educating a girl you are educating the future. Educating a girl changes her destiny, raises families out of poverty and is a starting point for social change. By introducing an exciting, modern education to girls in a very rural area we are setting new standards and taking responsibility for the future of those girls.
