Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. Here's my story:
I have signed up for a walking marathon organised by Cancer Research with the aim of raising £26 for every mile I will walk (I am a couch potato after all). The night of 24th September, I will "shine" by walking the streets of London, together with other thousands of people sharing similar memories, hopes and dreams.
Whilst we will never know which type of cancer triggered my Mum's passing, I chose this event to commemorate the two years since my mother passed away that very same night.
Your donations will go towards funding of research on prostate cancer research. Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men, but its prevention is not a topic that my male loved ones and my mates really like talking about. I came to find this out right after two close members of my family went through some really scary events.
One in eight men is said to get the scary diagnosis, while the percentage raises to 80% in the case of men over the age of 70 years. This is how giving up your muffin or coffee for one day could help kit groundbreaking research labs, decrease the number of deaths from prostate cancer and improve the quality of life of those fighting it:
- £26 or £1 per mile - buys food for cells to grow them in the lab, allowing scientists to find out more than ever before about cancer.
- £75- buys chemical building blocks that make up a strand of DNA, to make copies of important genes that give us clues about why things go wrong in cancer.
- £250 - buys special chemicals, called antibodies, to light up vital, tiny parts of the cell, to shed light on new ways to beat cancer, sooner.
- £550 - buys a pH meter to create the ideal environment for sensitive experiments which could hold clues to finding new ways to beat cancer, sooner.
Your support is an infinite source of encouragement and I will be grateful for any amount you are willing to offer.
