My story:

I'm 43 years old, born and raised in Southern California. I grew up in Redondo Beach & loved swimming, boogie boarding and skating on the beach, going to the movies and staying active. I was invited to the YMCA for a couple of events and really enjoyed it. Although I always had sunshine in my life, I was never a part of a community club, and I think I missed out on that connection and that support which could have helped me during my childhood and teenage years.

Thankfully I took the right path, got into a career in the recruitment industry and raised a family, but after 20 years I split with my partner.

Then several months later, I took a a leap of faith and flew to England to meet the love of my life. I had fallen head over heels in love with my e-mail buddy Kirk that I met via Bruce Springsteen's website & he ended up saving my life. My heart had been broken from my previous relationship but thankfully I have a new wonderful life here now and we will be married 7 years in June. I have a 26 year old son named Daniel who is married to his high school sweetheart and living in California, and 2 stepkids, Lucy (17) and Ewan (14) that I love as my own.  I have a wonderful circle of family & friends and still have a career in recruitment. I love what I do, and still get a buzz out of matching the right candidate to the right job.

The bonuses help pay for all of the trips we take. I/we visit California 2-3 times a year, and recent holidays have taken us to New York, Florida and Washington DC. Living in England has given me the amazing opportunity to visit countries I thought I would never see. All within 1-2 hours reach. We've had getaways to Paris, Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Stockholm, Berlin, Barcelona & Rome and have driven all over England, Scotland and Wales. I love living here, but I do miss my family in California not to mention the beaches and the sunshine! I'd love to live in the US in Autumn and Winter and spend Spring and Summer here. Or maybe the other way around.

I'm just happy to be alive and plan to enjoy every moment. I love taking walks, and being a part of the community. I have been working in Bolton for almost 7 years now. There is so much character and it is truly a special place. I know the kids of Bolton don't have the sunny beaches of California like I did, but they do have the Bolton Lads & Girls Club, and it is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited that offers so much to the community. I am honoured to be a patron and volunteer for the club, and I hope that you will sponsor my walk so that together, we can make a difference and support the children and community of Bolton. Now about the event!!!!

The Three Towers Walk – Sun 3rd July

Get involved!

What is it?

This year, Bolton Lads & Girls Club’s annual walking event is moving much closer to home with a walk taking in Rivington, Darwen & Peel Towers on the West Pennine Moors.

How far is it?

The course is 23 miles and takes around 8 - 9 hours to complete.  Although not as tough as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, it is still a tough challenge and should only be undertaken by experienced walkers, or by supporters who’ve done some training.

I guess I better get training! Please show your support, and donate now!!

Thanks, Ramona
