A heartfelt cricketing appeal

A Heartfelt Cricketing Appeal · 14 September 2019
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
Firstly let me introduce myself.....I have many guises but for this venture I’m Randy the Skipper of my beloved Seveno Cricket Club......or The Purple Anchors to one and all.
I’m a very average cricketer with dodgy knees and even dodgier eyesight, but every summer I lead a band of merry men who love their cricket and on most Saturdays through the summer you’ll find us cricketing the day away at our spiritual home “The Hood.”
I’ve been Captain of the mighty Seveno since 2011 and as of yet have not managed a 50 and am in desperate need to reach that famous milestone at least once before I croak.
To raise my bat to the imaginary pavilion would be stuff of dreams and though an average batsman you won’t find anyone keener!!!
Tell a lie, I did bring up a 50 whilst at the club......but that cake has long since been eaten! What I need now is some motivation to iron out from my batting the massive hoik across the line to a straight one and the deathly rattle of the stumps!!
I’ve had my moments though and there were days when I thought I’d get there and maybe sharing those failures will ease the pain!!!
There was the time when I was chugging along nicely into the 30’s and got bowled by the illegal 7th ball of an over!!
Once on tour on the hallowed Bath Recreation Ground I spanked 18 runs off one over off the hosts Skip and felt a million dollars only to stand on my stumps and be judged out hit wicket.........the only time that’s happened in over a hundred innings!!!
Even last year I was playing my best innings of the season with the number 11 as we put on a match winning partnership of 50 for the last wicket!!! However he hogged the strike and I was left 29no rueing what might of been......thanks Harxy!!!!
Still it is a team game and I can’t keep blaming bad luck!!!!
So I’ve decided a tad of even more responsibility might be just the motivation I need, and the added pressure of raising a few quid for a good cause can surely get the desired results.
Every run I can scrounge will mean £1 will go to my chosen charity and as I can’t run anymore, hopefully my wicketkeeping will mean me donating £5 for any catch, stumping or run out I manage to nick.
If on special occasions the dolly drop off “non” spin snares a wicket or two I’ll stick in a tenner!!!! Though the poor wretch who falls to that might have to double my donation!!!!
I’m hoping The British Heart Foundation will be the recipient of some cash as a thank you for the great work they do and as a personal thank you from me.
Sadly my father in-law passed away last year after a colossally brave fight and added to the fact my dad went over 10 years ago, both of them with major heart issues, my own heart is with the BHF.
They need all the help they can get to help in their work in improving the treatment of all heart related diseases.
So if you haven’t nodded off to sleep yet and would like to help me raise some money (my personal goal is 150 seasonal runs & 20 dismissals) then please feel free to support my efforts.
You can sponsor me for any one match, one month or the whole season if you’re brave enough either nominating your sponsorship before an event or retrospectively.
Alternatively you can make a one off donation or choose to support any milestone or heaven forbid even an unlikely 50!!!!
It is up to you and I’ll be updating after every game. First up on Saturday 25th May is The Indian High Commission
I’m not making any predictions but I’ll be promising you one thing.......I’ll be putting my heart and soul into it!!!!
Right I’m off to the nets!!!
Thank you for reading.
Randy.
