I am running Chicago Marathon this year and I am fund raising for Girl Scouts!

As many of you may already know, I was my daughter Maya's Girl Scout leader since she joined as a Daisy in 1st grade. When a mom at her school asked me if I wanted to become a troop leader I said: "Sure. Why not?" Little did I know on what an amazing journey she and I would embark on. I did not know much about girl scouts or what they did, worked on, stood by. Only thing I knew is that they sold amazing cookies But I learned! I went to training sessions, opened pintrest account, read Girl Scout manuals, and I could not believe how many great opportunities they offered to the young girls. They learn how to be better people, friends, leaders, entrepreneurs. It teaches them how to think creatively. They have fun, they sing, they camp, they learn how to get along, they laugh, they cry, they laugh again... As I was leading her troop, I learned so much. I became a better person for it too.

And now, Maya is a freshman in high school, senior girl scout and, this year she had an honor to be chosen as a girl scout representative to the Board for Greater Chicago and Northwestern Indiana Council. As a member of the Board, she is involved in decision making that shapes policies of this organization, helps create new programs and opportunities for all of the girl scouts in our council. She started by making a daisy flower on a paper plate in order to learn the girl scout law and promise, and now she is part of the group that shapes this same organization.

I am so proud of her, and I want to stand by her, to help her thrive even more, so I chose to run Chicago Marathon this year and fund raise for the Girl Scouts. I hope you can help me in this process, so that they can create even more amazing opportunities for its current and future members.

As I go along on this journey this spring, summer and fall, I will keep you posted on my progress. I am excited, I am nervous, but I am ready to take on this challenge.
