"St Gemma’s Hospice is a local, independent charity and has been providing expert care to the people of Leeds for over 40 years. We provide the best possible care and support for local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. We specialise in pain relief and symptom control to help people live as well as possible, for as long as possible. We are the largest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the largest in England."
About the drawing and why I chose St Gemma's...
I recently spent 50 hours on a drawing of Leeds United winger and Brazilian superstar, Raphinha, just after he had scored his first goal for the club against Everton. I had the idea to raffle it for charity early on, and given the huge response I received on social media after sharing it, I am now in a position to do so.
I was lucky enough to be contacted by someone with connections to Angus Kinnear, MD at LUFC, who has kindly agreed to have the drawing autographed by the man himself!
Although still completely overwhelmed by the response to my drawing, I'm beyond thrilled that the time and effort I put into this drawing will raise vital funds for this extraordinary charity.
I have always had connections to the hospice due to my Great Uncle previously being the Chief Operating Officer there, and my wider family attending their annual 'Light up a Life' appeal each Christmas. I also lost a dear friend in 2020 in her battle with Cancer who was extremely well cared for at the hospice in her final few months. For this reason alone, I will be ecstatic with anything raised through this raffle.
