Stage 13 : Scafell Pike Challenge · 7 July 2021 ·
At Ravensworth Terrace Primary School we encourage children to be active and develop a love of the outdoors. Walking and being outdoors, enjoying fresh air and nature benefits both children’s physical and mental health. Our staff are role models to the children and are keen to show them that they are up for a challenge! What better challenge than climbing the highest mountain in England! Ms Thompson, Miss Fada, Mrs Mitchinson, Mrs Johnston and Miss Antcliffe will be climbing Scafell Pike on Wednesday 7th July. The money they raise will pay for all of our current Year 5 children receiving a brand new pair of hiking boots and also support the charity itself. We would be grateful for any donation you can spare to help this worthy cause. Please note you can change the amount you wish to pay by clicking on the amount box and adding your donation. £2 is the minimum amount and every £2 we receive will be wonderful. Thank you so much for your support.
Our trek towards the highest mountain in England begins in Great Langdale. We take a path out of Old Dungeon Ghyll which leads us onto The Band, which we follow onto Bowfell. From here, we carry on to Esk Pike and then round Esk Hause, working our way up to Scafell Pike - the highest point in England at 978 metres. Afterwards, we loop round Great End, and then down towards Angle Tarn below Rossett Pike. We drop down to the valley bottom and make our way on to our end point.A challenging, but hugely rewarding stage carries us over some of the Lake Districts most iconic mountains. Requiring good fitness and plenty of determination, it is one of the standout stages of the Big Smile trek.
