Saving babies from their first breath - advancing neonatal intensive care in Vietnam to help close the gap between developing and developed world standards of newborn care. Our work addresses the critical shortage of nurses, trained health workers and basic specialist lifesaving equipment.

Story

I am ‘cycling for newborns’ because I am passionate that every baby deserves a first birthday no matter where on this planet he or she is born. Nearly 3 million babies around the world do not survive their first month with more than a million dying on their first day of life from easily preventable causes – 99% of these deaths are in poor and low-income countries. In Vietnam, neonatal mortality accounts for 50% of deaths for under 5 year olds.  The critical shortage of appropriately trained nurses and equipment as well as limited knowledge are major factors in why the newborn death rate remains high.  I am cycling 440 kilometers in 3 days to raise funds for neonatal nurse training and lifesaving equipment and would truly appreciate your support.
