London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
On Sunday April 28th, Michael, Sam, Hope and Lizzie will be running the London Marathon in order to raise money for the Rays of Sunshine unit at Kings College Hospital, London. It is never easy to push yourself to run such a long distance but the driving force behind it will be the vision to make a contribution to this fantastic unit. Rays of Sunshine specialises in treating children with liver conditions and cares for children pre and post liver, intestinal and multi-organ transplant, treating
over 3000 children per year, the ward often becomes home for children and their families. It currently serves as the largest paediatric liver transplantation centre in the world and performs more than 60 transplants a year, on children as young as 5 days old.
Having visited the unit, ourselves, we strongly believe that the money we are able to raise will make a big difference not only to the children being treated there but to their parents and the staff delivering world class healthcare to them on a daily basis. We would love to be able to provide the children with more stimulation, toys, books and day to day items that will ensure their maximum comfort and happiness, through what can be an incredibly tough time for them and their families. A number of the children treated will remain in complete isolation throughout their stay at Rays ofSunshine due to the severity of their illnesses, which is a very tough pill to swallow to even imagine. As parents, both Anna and Michael find this is an especially important goal for them, to be able to make a difference to this extremely special ward in the heart of London. Rays of Sunshine is so highly though of, that patients are flown from as far as the Middle East to be treated here by the professional surgeons, doctors, nurses and specialists, who work tirelessly and innovatively to treat them.
Any donation, no matter how small or big will be so greatly appreciated by us all, be it your daily Starbucks allowance or perhaps your Gucci shoes fund, your money will make the world of difference to a vast number of children and adults for years to come. We aim to make changes that will have longevity and while we are most likely sweating our way around London in April, we will have this goal very strongly set in our minds.
Thank you so much in advance to everybody for your support, we are so grateful and can’t wait to smash this marathon and hopefully make a lasting difference to the Rays of Sunshine Unit!
All our love,
Michael, Sam, Hope and Lizzie
