The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that gives families with a seriously ill child in hospital a comfortable place to stay and a friendly ear to listen in one of our ten ‘Homes from Home’. By providing families with somewhere to stay near their child they have one less thing to worry about.

Story

Richard's (aka Reacher to those on Eurogamer) little boy, Matthew, had recently been in hospital and suffered severe complications after his operation.

Unfortunately I have to update this page with bad news that Matthew passed away this morning, 27 February, in peace, surrounded by his family.

During this very difficult time, the Sick Children's Trust has been a great support to all of Matthew's immediate family, and enabled them to be there for him, providing them with somewhere free to stay locally to the hospital that Matthew has been staying in.

To thank them for this support, and also to provide some positivity
to Matthew's family during this very difficult time, this fundraising page has been set up for anybody wishing to give.

Reacher and his wife have already passed on their thanks for the incredible generosity shown by so many of you in the Eurogamer community, who, at the time of writing this update, have already taken the total raised to over £1k. I know it can't change things, but the generosity that relative strangers have shown to Matthew's family has provided them with some positivity during this challenging time.

Matthew was an avid gamer, and was part of the EG community himself when he would come together with his dad to play online. So it's somewhat fitting that this community has come together in this way.

This fundraising page is now being opened up further, so even more
of Matthew's school friends and other members of his local community can give, should they wish to.

Finally, thank you to everyone that has, or intends, to support this cause, in memory of Matthew Hyland.
