Bournemouth Marathon Festival Half Marathon 2017 · 8 October 2017 ·
I'm sure most of you know my story... for those who don't, I was diagnosed with Burkett's Lymphoma in 2013, aged 32 with a husband and 2 very little daughters, Pops was 2 and Florence was 6 months. I was an inpatient at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital for nearly 5 months having one hell of a Chemo regime and all the other horrors that went with it! For the first few weeks I was paralysed as a tumour had crushed my spinal cord, until steroids melted it away and I had to re-learn walking! After treatment I went into remission, I caught every virus going for 2 years and consistently had fatigue, I couldn't shake it, every day was like wading through treacle.
The road to recovery has been very bumpy, if it wasn't for the fantastic Rachael Hall and the Haematology team at RBH I wouldn't be here. Even now, 3 1/2 years in I regularly need to call Catherine my Macmillan Specilist Nurse for advice, she's seen me with half an hours notice, has rushed through results and extra PET scans when I've needed them and has given me reassurance when I don't feel right or I was stressed and worried! She is excellent, always there, always reassuring, always taking my fears seriously, (even when the small bruises on my arm was caused by my underwire on a new bra!!) and I want to try to ensure other MacMillan specialists are available for other cancer patients.
Now for the cheerier bit... my friend Gemma inspired me to run the couch to 5km last year, it was tough but I did it! Then I ran a bit further and a bit further still and tried to do the best prep and training, now I'm going to run 21km, I'm not going to break any records and to be frank if I finish the race before the course closes I will be chuffed!
But please, please sponsor me for MacMillan!
