Story
Arlo is our beautiful, resilient, cheeky cuddly boy. He has had a difficult start and has been recently diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. He has seizures daily and unfortunately medication has not been able to get these under control. This led us onto our journey in the wonderful world of keto.
The ketogenic diet aims to copy the effect of fasting. When we fast our bodies and use fats instead of carbohydrates as the major energy source. When fat is used as energy, ketones are produced. This process reduces seizures in some people. This idea of treatment from Arlo’s neurologist led us to The Daisy Garland Charity.
The Daisy Garland Charity have been welcoming, warming and supportive when it was very much needed.
They provide positive support for some of the 18,000 children in the UK who suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy. The help they offer is life-changing and wide ranging:
They fund ketogenic dietitians and dietetic support workers.
They give grants for life-saving monitors.
Daisy's Keto Café is their on-line round-the-clock parent support group.
They offer vital one-to-one family support.
They award small, one-off grants for special needs equipment.
Arlo and I have been truly touched by this community of support so we wanted to fundraise.
I will be dying my hair BRIGHT PURPLE in time for Purple Day on the 26th March to raise awareness for epilepsy. We will also be organising a purple day in which everyone will be invited to wear purple and have a purple bake off!
Please show your support by donating (however small) and enjoy laughing at my crazy hair!
