Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In May, I had to undergo emergency open heart surgery of over 9 hours. During this time, my heart was stopped and put on bypass so I could have my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve, 2 valves repaired as well as my enlarged aorta repaired which was dangerously close to rupturing. I have been told this is likely down to genetics and ‘marfans syndrome’ from my tissues being examined after surgery. I was fine until March and then deteriorated very quickly. Following several GP visits, I was told it was anxiety. I followed my instincts and got a second opinion. Doing this saved my life. I feel very passionately that this cannot happen to anyone else and please trust your gut instincts and ‘do not give up’ until you have answers if you ever feel unwell. It could save your life.
I have now been given the all clear by my consultant/surgeon and heart nurse that I can rebuild my fitness further from my current cardiac rehabilitation plan so that is what I will be doing whilst hopefully raising some money for royal papworth. We never know when we may need life saving treatment, I certainly didn’t and I’m sure many of us have been touched by this amazing hospital through someone we know. Any donations however small will be very much appreciated as I fight my way back to full fitness ready to take on everyday life again. I will record regular updates to show the progress I am making.
Thank you 💗
