Story
I am running the Sydney 'City to Surf' for SANDS as they are a wonderful charity that do so much helpful work by supporting families who have suffered miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death, both here in Australia / New Zealand and back in the UK.
As many of you know my cousin Heather and her husband Niles lost their little boy, Alexander John, in August last year. They have told me how the charity SANDS helped them through this extremely difficult passage in their life and how they and many other families continue to receive the support that this truly remarkable charity provides.
As fate would have it, the City to Surf run is on the day which would have been Alexander’s first birthday, so I hope this will inspire me when the going gets tough on the day to complete this 14km run - especially up Heartbreak Hill which I hear from countless people is a huge challenge!! It’s the first event of this kind I have decided to participate in and I am a little daunted by it – but I trust the memory of Alexander will help spur me on!
