Story
I am joining in the March challenge and aiming to walk 50 miles during March to raise funds for a very worthy local charity.
Highland Deaf Children’s Society (HDCS) are a small Highland based charity, run by a committee who are family members of deaf children or professionals who work with deaf people.
HDCS exists to provide much needed support and advice to families of deaf or partially hearing children in Highland.
For deaf children, life can be difficult, tiring and stressful; the proceeds of our fundraising activities will allow us to continue to support families to learn British Sign Language (BSL) and to provide regular clubs for our children and young people. At our clubs, children of all ages with any type of hearing loss can meet, socialise, relax, share experiences and have fun together, knowing that communication won’t be an issue.
This builds self-esteem, confidence and reduces feelings of isolation that is very common for deaf people. For many this is the only time that these children can meet with their deaf peers and make new friends.
The events and activities organised throughout the year will have BSL/English interpreters attending to ensure that the events are accessible for all attendees whether hearing or deaf, child, siblings or parents/carers..
Please help me to raise funds for their vital work.
