Story

Five years ago I was writing my bucket list of things to do before I turned 50 and running of any distance didn’t feature at all…I didn’t even own any trainers! Fast forward to now and how things have changed!

On 3rd October 2021 I’ll be taking part in The London Marathon to fundraise for Hear Together, a charity that supported my younger sister Abigail after she received her cochlear implant 13 years ago.

Last year I completed The London Marathon “My Way” virtual run. I set off on the first 7 miles at midnight and finished the remaining 19 miles after a few hours sleep. This time I have to do it their way - it will be my first 26.2 mile run and I would love the support of my family and friends along the way.

As with all small charities, Hear Together are dependent on fundraising to keep them going. I’m therefore grateful of all donations no matter how small or large - thank you!

Abigail: “I received my cochlear implant 13 years ago. It was life changing and I have always wanted to give something back. I am very proud of my sister Rebecca and thank her for choosing Hear Together as her chosen charity for the London Marathon 2021.”

Hear Together:

We work with deaf and hard of hearing children, teenagers and adults, providing services to develop confident communication. Our vision is that everyone with hearing loss can participate fully and achieve their potential.

With your generous support, Hear Together will be able to provide
- online events for deaf kids and teens to make friends and become confident communicators
- community-based hearing aid clinics for the elderly to keep them hearing and communicating
- a training programme for 17-25 year olds growing the next generation of deaf Young Leaders and mentors
