Story

At the end of October I will be riding in the Countryside Alliance race at Aintree. The race is a mile and five furlongs on the flat and there will be seven of us lining up to give it a go. The race is part of the Countryside Day and aims to raise valuable funds for the Countryside Alliance Foundation.

This charity ‘aims to help adults and children alike to make the most of the incredible remedial and educational benefits of being involved in the delights of rural Britain’ .

I had never sat on a race horse up until a few months ago but have spent a lot of time over the summer at Nicky Richards racing yard in Penrith. I have also been put through my paces on the simulator under the watchful eye of former jump jockey, Brian Harding. Nicky has kindly promised me a suitable mount for the day but I have my eye on one or two of my favourites on the yard! . A huge thank you goes to all the yard staff for their time, help and advice.

A big thank you also to the Masters of the Holcombe hunt for giving me this opportunity to ride and to raise funds for this worthy cause.
I am absolutely delighted to be involved with both the race and the cause and although I am back at University now, I’m getting stuck into the fitness and training required.

If you have a spare few pounds to give to a great cause, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page.

About the charity

Many children and young people know little about the countryside and rural way of life. Its programme of educational initiatives will introduce them, and their teachers, to the beauty, importance and diversity of our rural heritage, inspiring them to become passionate about its future and protect it for future generations.
