Rebecca's 1000km cycle challenge · 27 December 2020

Asylum Welcome provides trusted information, advice, practical support & solidarity to asylum seekers, refugees & vulnerable migrants in Oxfordshire. Working respectfully alongside them, we offer a warm welcome & a broad range of volunteer-run services to help them feel safe, respected & understood.

Story

I have set myself a target of cycling 500 km by 31 January 2021, with a fundraising target of £500.

Please support my challenge by donating to Asylum Welcome, a small but mighty charity in Oxford.  Having volunteered as an advisor with Asylum Welcome, I know that its work has a huge positive impact for the community of asylum seekers and refugees in the Oxford area.  AW welcomes asylum seekers, refugees and detainees who have fled persecution and danger in their own countries, seeking refuge in Oxford and Oxfordshire.  When I cycle, I will be thinking of the thousands of kilometres, too often in perilous and uncertain conditions, that they have travelled to reach sanctuary here.

AW's work includes:

  • supporting unaccompanied asylum seeking children in Oxfordshire
  • running a food bank
  • providing advice on immigration and asylum
  • teaching English
  • referring to and working closely with lawyers to support asylum seekers' access to justice.
  • advocating for better asylum policies
Please help me to reach my target by donating generously!
