As I think you all know, I discovered in September last year that I had bowel cancer and that things were at a critical stage!
Since then I have spent 4 weeks in hospital, had two lots of surgery, and had 12 rounds of chemotherapy which finished on 28 April this year. Thankfully all went well and the prognosis is good.
A vital part of my recovery has been walking in the lovely countryside where I live - both with friends and on my own. I have also been inspired by friends and family doing the marathon and other challenge events, as well as Martin’s continuing challenges and achievements!, and I wanted to celebrate the end of my journey and return to normality.
So I have signed up to do part of the Cotswold Way on 30 June this year. I will be walking 50km from Wotton under Edge to Cheltenham, and will be raising money for Bowel Cancer UK and Beating Bowel Cancer.
By sponsoring me, you will be helping these charities continue their life-saving work of championing early diagnosis; improving treatment and care; and enabling research into bowel cancer.
As well as supporting the charities in their vital work, I want to remind people not to ignore any symptoms and to ensure they get diagnosed as early as possible. If I had discovered the problem earlier then I would not have needed such major surgery and would not have been left with the life-changing effects of two stomas. So please do go to your GP if you have any changes in bowel habits that are concerning!
Meanwhile please sponsor me to raise funds for these fantastic charities!! And many, many thanks to all of you for all your support, love and encouragement throughout the last 8 months - it has all made a huge difference!
Thank you very much
Rebecca
