Virgin Sport Oxford Half Marathon 2017 · 8 October 2017 ·

Our hospitals serve 900,000 local people. Whilst the NHS provides funding for the necessities, King George & Queen’s Hospitals Charity funds projects which enhance the hospital experience for patients, visitors and staff at both Queen’s Hospital, Romford and King George Hospital, Ilford.

Story

I'll be running the Virgin Oxford Half Marathon on the 8th of October - my first one! I'm raising money for Queens Hospital NICU which saved my beautiful nephew, George, when he was born in April. I work for Barclays who are generously matching every £ donated, up to £1,000.

While my sister in law Kate was pregnant they discovered a hole in George's heart. When he was born, he was unable to breathe on his own due to an added complication on his lung. The staff at Queens worked quickly and effectively, saving his life and helped strengthen him so he could go home after 2 weeks in NICU. Whilst such a difficult time for the family, the hospital's staff and their care made a huge impact, not only in saving George but supporting his parents. We want to raise money to support the valuable work NICU does every day for many families, and in recognising the vital role they played in George's first couple of weeks.

This is a cause really close to our hearts, and don't forget your donation will go twice as far with Barclays matched fundraising!
