We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

Stu lives with the chronic and life-changing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), in the form of Ulcerative Colitis. Before meeting Stu, I was not aware of this disease, and after seeing first-hand the effects it has on a person's life, I am passionate about helping to find a cure.

IBD can often be confused with IBS, a digestive condition.  They are not the same.

IBD is a life-long and often debilitating disease affecting the intestines.  Chron's and Ulcerative Colitis are the two main forms of IBD and affects around 300,000 people in the UK.  It is not clear what the cause is but it is mainly thought that it is down to genetics and the immune system.

There is no cure. Around 1 in 5 Colitis sufferers cannot manage their symptoms with medication and will need surgery.

It is largely a hidden disease, and one that causes stigma, fear, isolation and excruciating pain – it’s thought that many people suffer in silence. It doesn’t have to be like this.

We are taking part in the Manchester WALK IT 10k to help raise awareness and money for the chronic disease which takes over so many people's lives, with little to no understanding of the condition.
