Neuroendocrine Cancer UK exists to support and inform patients and families from diagnosis, enabling access to the best care and treatment, whilst stimulating Neuroendocrine Cancer research, increasing national awareness, and influencing improvements in outcomes.

Story

6 months ago I hadn't heard of Neuroendocrine Cancer.

In April I started working with a lovely lady called Helen, I met Helen via Instagram and she has helped me to promote and grow my business.  As I got to know Helen more I learnt that, almost a year ago, her husband Phil was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer.  This is a rare form of cancer - there were 1600 people diagnosed in the UK last year and it is often misdiagnosed as the symptoms can mimic those of the menopause or IBS.  If caught earlier enough it can be cured or managed.  As the name suggests the cancer is closely linked to the Neuroendocrine system (hormones).

After numerous invasive tests and an operation to remove 6 tumours, as well a large proportion of his lower small intestine, his appendix and cecal valve, Phil is living now with the cancer, his treatment being a monthly hormone injection.  He has to take many vitamins and minerals too.   It is also hard for his body to absorb nutrients from food, so this can mean going back in to hospital to manage this.

If you'd like to like to read more about Phil's experience, Helen has written a blog about their story.

I decided to take on the challenge of the Great South Run again and this year I am hoping to raise money and awareness for The Net Patient Foundation, a UK wide charity dedicated to providing support and information to those affected by Neuroendocrine cancer.  The NET Patient Foundation supports families
from diagnosis, enabling access to the best care and treatment, whilst stimulating Neuroendocrine cancer research, increasing national awareness and influencing improvements in outcomes.

I'd really appreciate your support by sponsoring me to raise money and awareness for this fantastic charity.

Thank you so much!
