Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page

Lewis was diagnosed with T Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (T – ALL) in October 2015 when he was just 5 years old.

Over the last two years Lewis has undergone a variety of challenging treatments including multiple courses of Chemotherapy at both the University Hospital of North Midlands and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

In December 2016 Lewis and his family received the devastating news that Lewis’ Leukaemia had relapsed. It was decided at that point that a bone marrow transplant would be Lewis’ best hope of a cure.

Hope was restored in January 2017 when a suitable bone marrow donor was found (an umbilical cord from the US)

Lewis had to undertake total body irradiation prior to the stem cell transplant which took place on 22nd February 2017

Despite a few setbacks along the way Lewis’ transplant was deemed a success and on 15th May 2017 after a lengthy stay in hospital (the majority of which was in isolation) he was discharged home.

On 6th June 2017 Susanne and Adam (Lewis’ parents) received the most devastating news that Lewis  had again relapsed and it was reported that there was a lot more Leukaemia in the bone marrow than there was prior to transplant.

Further treatment options are currently being explored which will involve more chemotherapy but Lewis’ future has become more uncertain. Susanne, Adam and all of their family and friends are clinging onto every last bit of hope and are pursuing the possibility of new drugs and clinical trials, some of which are in the US.

I work in the same Division at UHNM  as Susanne and would like to raise money by doing this run to support them.
