Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Marathon 2022 on October 2nd (mad I know, given that I am not an avid runner and I haven't left myself with much training time) but I was fortunate to gain a ballot position in the marathon and thought this is the perfect chance to raise some money for charity.

I already planned to run for Cancer Research UK given the
impact cancer has on so many lives but I would also like to use this as an opportunity to kick-start Accords fundraising efforts for the agencies chosen charity this year, London Hearts, in memory of our much loved colleague, Mark John.

For those of you that worked with MJ you'll know he was a fabulous individual bringing happiness and humour into the office daily and for those of you that did not have the pleasure of meeting him, you know he lives on in the memories and stories that are constantly told about him.

Sadly, on the 31st October 2021 Mark suffered a cardiac arrest and unfortunately, regardless of everyone’s efforts, did not survive.

There are more than 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests across the UK every year but less than one in ten people survive. London Hearts is the leading heart charity in the UK for placing defibrillators in communities and delivering CPR and defibrillator training.

The more defibrillators that are accessible, and the more people trained in how to use them, the better the chance of survival for someone who suddenly collapses from of a cardiac arrest.

If a defibrillator is used with timely CPR within 3-5 minutes of a cardiac arrest, the chance of survival increases from 6% to 74% and this is the reason we need more of them around!!!

If you could please give any amount in support of London
Hearts that would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance,

Becky
