My name is Becca and I am taking on the 5km a day in October to support Tommy's vital work to help save babies' lives.

In 2024, my partner and I found out I was pregnant with our first baby. Although it was a little unexpected, we were so excited to start a new chapter together and were incredibly grateful to be able to do this with one another. Pregnancy did not come without hiccups, but all scans were positive and we thought we were on the right track. On March 10th 2025, I went to my 20-week scan on what started as an ordinary, but also exciting, day for us. It was then that we were given the devastating news that our baby no longer had a heartbeat. After having lots of information thrown at us and not a lot of time to digest it, we returned to hospital the next day on March 11th 2025 and our baby was born sleeping.

We grappled with this loss whilst having to deal with phone calls, medical appointments and medical testing to help us find out what went wrong. After what felt like years (but in reality was just a few months) we found out our baby had a rare abnormality called Triploidy. Not long after this I found out I was pregnant again, which gave us such unbelievable joy but also immense anxiety, despite being reassured that what happened previously would have been so rare to happen again. I was put under the care of the Rainbow team at Royal Berks and am so grateful for all the support we received to help give us a positive experience and thorough care. Our little boy was born happy and healthy on March 17th 2026, almost exactly a year after our first baby - which felt like a full circle moment. He has healed me in so many ways but will never replace what we have lost.

Pregnancy & baby loss has opened a door into a new world for me, allowing me to meet so many strong women who have gone through similar experiences and who have shared their stories. It has also shown me just how important research into pregnancy and baby loss is, to support other families like us, as the truth is that it can happen to anyone.
