Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I went to my GP at the end of March 2019 with what I assumed was IBS. I work shifts for North West Ambulance Service and assumed my intermittent constipation and bloated abdomen were as a result of eating the wrong foods.
A CA125 blood test revealed a value of 217 and subsequent ultrasound scans found an ovarian mass.
I am due to have a total abdominal hysterectomy and also omentectomy in the next week or two at Liverpool Women's Hospital, which will put me into an immediate surgical menopause. I will know later on, if the mass was malignant or benign and what treatment, if any, will follow.
My reason for choosing Target Ovarian Cancer? There is currently no screening programme for this condition. Lots of women mistakenly believe a smear test will detect it. Usually, symptoms are very mild or vague and women are completely unaware of the possibility that their symptoms could be related to the ovaries.
A change in bowel habit... or needing to pee more frequently... or some abdo pain... or abdominal bloating... or irregular bleeding... you do not have to have all of these symptoms.
Be aware. Know what's normal for you. Help me reach my target of £3000 (it would be great to beat that target!) by donating something you can afford or coming to one of our fundraising events.
