Running 10km a every day till World Cancer Day (4 Feb 2019) · 16 October 2018

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

My challenge, to run 1100 km, or approximately 10km EVERYDAY until World Cancer  day - 4 Feb 2019. That’s 112 days, 1,100 km or the equivalent distance  of 26.actual marathons! I started this on 15 October 2018.

This is a MASSIVE challenge for me, to maintain the stamina and find time to run every day for 112 days in a row alongside juggling a busy job and family life. MADNESS, but I am so very driven about WHY!

The Why:  I am running in recognition of the inspirational families who are living with a son or daughter facing cancer.  EVERY DAY 7 young people in the UK hear the news that they have cancer. I have the honour of working with many  these families. I LOVE my job, and am constantly humbled by the bravery and resilience shown by those we care for and support. Especially in my thoughts are Kirsten Hawksey’s family who in her memory are boldly campaigning to raise awareness of Teenage Cancer & early diagnosis in young people.

I am also running in recognition of our incredible nurses and staff at our units at The Christie; Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital; Clatterbridge Cancer Centre; Alder Hey and our NW outreach service. They are experts in all they do proving specialist care and support to young people and their families when they need it most!!

Finally I am running in memory of my fab darling friend Andrea, who’s spirit, love and courage is with me daily. Andrea passed away from advanced metastatic breast cancer on 30 March 2017, and even though she hated running and would be smiling at the mere thought of this challenge, she was hugely supportive and interested in my work with Teenage Cancer Trust. I run for her, and also in memory of the AMAZING Craig Smith, ‘Windermere Warrior’ and his family who are very much in my thoughts.

All our families and these 2 friends make running 1,100 km a mere insignificance.

have chosen to try and raise a minimum of £3,000  which could fund over 7 school Education and Awareness presentations, ensuring that young people and their families know the signs of cancer and feel confident to seek help if they need it.  Or 100 hours of specialist care that one of our outreach nurses could provide. MASSIVE target to accompany  an equally MASSIVE challenge, so please give generously ☺️ as I’m super nervous about whether I can do this.....

Support runners hugely welcomed on any day !! Thank you for reading this.
