I am running the London Marathon on 22 April 2018. This will be my first marathon and I am hoping to get around in about 3hrs 45mins. To help me do this I need your support. 

I joined London URNU last year and since then have been given some amazing opportunities. In 2017 I deployed twice with HMS Puncher on two two week deployments one around the north coast of France and the other along the east coast up to Edinburgh. I have now been given the opportunity to run the London Marathon and feel like I can give something back to the maritime community by raising money for Seafarers UK.

Seafarers UK support the maritime community in many ways focusing on aiding the past, present and future of the maritime community.

It is important to note that as an island nation we (UK) depend on ours seas in more ways than you would realise. Seafarers are crucial in defending us, feeding us and supplying us with 95% of all imported goods.

Past: Seafarers are raising money for a new high-needs sheltered accommodation where ex-seafarers and their families can receive the 24-hour support they require for their care in later life.

Present: They also support the welfare of current or past seafarers helping ex-seafarers adjust to a new life after a career at sea including aiding these people to avoid homelessness, find jobs and access the mental health services they require for depression and PTSD. 

They also influence the international maritime community. They are currently setting up welfare boards all over the world which ensure the well-being of seafarers is supported on arrival in a port. They provide advice, housing, care, health, education and youth welfare to sailors and aid those at sea with injury and disability, loneliness, depression, financial or relationship issues or supporting families of those that die at sea.

Future: Seafarers UK are investing in the future of the maritime community by teaching young people and training them for a potential career at sea (in partnership with Sea Cadets). Through the use of marine engineering mobile units, with trained instructors, specialised equipment and learning materials Seafarers UK will offer thousands of young people their first taste of what it is like to be involved in the maritime community and will provide many young people with valuable marine engineering qualifications.
