Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in the Grand Départ Classic 2022 in order to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

The 2022 Tour de France begins in Copenhagen, Denmark, who are hosting a total of three stages of Le Tour this year. I am riding the first road stage on Friday 1 July, just one day ahead of the pros who will tackle the same route the day after. Leaving from from city of Roskilde, I'll be riding a gruelling 183 km (113 mile) winding and brutal coastal route in and around the Danish capital city Copenhagen, ending in Nyborg. This will be the first time I have taken part in a charity ride and will be by far the longest distance I have ever cycled. The route will be relentless and will take 8-10 hours to complete in total. It is, however, all for an absolutely fantastic cause.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in males, with 1 in 8 men being diagnosed in their lifetimeMore than 47,500 men are found to have prostate cancer every year – that's 129 people every day. Every 45 minutes sadly one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 11,500 people every single year. Prostate Cancer UK has a simple aspiration: stop men dying from prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer UK has been doing fantastic work since 1999 by driving improvements in support, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. In the last 20 years, they have invested over £37 million into ground breaking research, and continue to provide award-winning support for men, their friends, families and all people who are affected by prostate cancer.

I am a NHS Physician Associate working in the Urology department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, and my colleagues and I therefore deal with the devastation and heartbreak prostate cancer causes every single day. I have seen first hand the exceptional impact Prostate Cancer UK can have on those suffering from the disease. It will be an honour to represent the charity and help support all the incredible work they do for sufferers across the country.

Your donation will make a huge impact, however large or small. I am aiming to raise £1000, all of which will go directly to Prostate Cancer UK to help continue the fight against this awful disease. Thank you all so very much, your contribution is greatly appreciated.
