The Free Representation Unit (FRU) is a charity dedicated to providing free legal representation to those who cannot afford to pay, before Tribunals in the Greater London area where legal-aid is unavailable. Founded in 1972, FRU is one of the country's foremost providers of free legal service.

Story

I'm going to be running the London Marathon for the Free Representation Unit - all 26.2 miles of it (although past experience suggests that the last couple of miles might be more of a shambling hobble).

FRU provides pro bono representation in about 1000 cases each year, covering Social Security and Employment tribunals. Most of the work is done by volunteers (mainly students) but there is a small staff, including myself as Legal Officer, Employment.

Like most legal charities we are facing troubled times and we are currently operating at a defecit. Anything you can spare will be put to good use helping our vulnerable clients and providing valuable experience for our volunteers.
