Story

7 of us are running the 2023 Royal Parks Half Marathon and raising money for an amazing charity. Please support us by donating to this brilliant cause.

This fundraiser is dedicated to Leia Al Hussaini 🦋

In August 2021 Leia was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, at only 2 years old. Starting her treatment in Kuwait, they were told that they didn’t have all the requirements for the treatment there so they were referred to Great North Children's Hospital in New Castle, where their treatment took place.

Leaving behind their life, their work, friends and family; Leia, her brother, her parents and grandparents packed their things and entered a new world. After a very long year of surgeries, medication, chemo and where the hospital became their new home, we finally saw light at the end of the tunnel. Leia was in remission and the happy ending was near. Leia celebrated her 3rd birthday as the princess she is and they all began to pack their things to close this chapter and return back home.

The side effects from the chemo given to treat neuroblastoma included a 1% chance of leukaemia. With only 9 days left of recovery, Leia fell ill with a fever and was later diagnosed with Leukaemia. As you can imagine, our worlds crashing would be an understatement. After a long and tough battle, Leia decided it was time to rest on 14th September 2022. She’s the strongest, most loving princess and undoubtedly the prettiest angel up there.

Leia’s mum, Jackeen, has been the best mum any child can wish for. She has fulfilled every single one of Leia’s wishes in the worst circumstances and has never failed to make her feel loved and safe.

We’d really appreciate it if you can donate even £1 to help stop children from suffering this horrible disease
