Reem, Anwar, Maha and the 'Queens Of Syria' Cast

Queens Of Syria Theatre Tour · 5 July 2016
"My name is Reem, I fled Damascus in 2012 in the middle of my University studies. We went by the light of cigarette lighters and left our life behind. Now I am a refugee."
"My name is Anwar. We left Syria when our house was bombed. We were forced to leave everything. Now I am a refugee."
"My name is Maha, I live day to day but no more. This isn't our home or our country. I live on a floor with two foam mattresses. What can I dream about? I am a refugee."
We are three of the cast of the theatre play 'Queens Of Syria' and we need your support...
In 2013 we met in Jordan and made our own adaptation of Euripides' 'The Trojan Women'. With a group of others who had fled from Syria for safety, we added our own experiences and stories to the play so that people could hear and understand what had happened to us. This play written 2500 years ago in Ancient Greece has become our story.
We now have an opportunity to bring our production to the UK and the Charity Developing Artists is raising money to make this happen. Can you help?
We will perform at the Young Vic Theatre in London (5th-9th July) and then tour to Oxford, Brighton, Liverpool, Leeds, Durham and Edinburgh, ending with a Gala Performance in London.
Because this is such a unique production, the ticket sales alone will not cover our costs. Your donations will make it possible.
Your contributions will go towards the cost of our flights, UK visas, travel around the country and the extra costs involved in bringing this production to an audience in the UK.
Before 'Queens of Syria':
None of us had ever acted before but we wanted to do something... To tell an audience, to tell the world, what was and is happening.
Nowadays everyone is speaking about the ‘Refugee Crisis’. Refugees, refugees… But it’s not enough that you just see these things on the television, the radio, on social media. You need to meet these people, these 'refugees', speak with them, understand them and then you can decide what's wrong and what's right.
We are not just refugees: we are women, we are real people with real stories that need to be told, shared and understood. This is a great opportunity for all of us to do that.
Anything you can give in helping us to tell our story will make a huge difference, Thank you!
