York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity raises funds to help make a positive difference in your local hospital - making patients, relatives and visitors feel better and providing a level of care that is beyond that which NHS funding alone could deliver.

Story

Due to growth in demand, both in numbers and severity, the current Resuscitation area within the Emergency Department needs further investment to keep up with this demand. The investment will mean we can increase the current two bedded capacity to three, which will make a huge difference to the 2,200 patients who need resuscitating at York Hospital each year.

The Resuscitation room caters for any critically unwell or injured patient who requires immediate life saving treatment. This can be the baby born in the community which is struggling to breathe, the young motorcyclist involved in a head on collision or the elderly patient in cardiac arrest, often at the same time. These incidences happen every day in the Emergency Department of a hospital. What is needed is a multi functional room that has the equipment and capacity for three distinct patient treatment areas.

£30,000 has been secured from the Trust’s capital programme and from the Friend’s of York Hospital but this will not cover the full cost of the refurbishment and a further £20,000 is required.
