About Refuge

On any given day, Refuge supports over 2,000 women and children to escape domestic violence and rebuild their lives.  Since opening the world’s first refuge London in 1971, Refuge has grown to become the country’s largest provider of specialist services for abused women and children, and the leading voice in the campaign against domestic violence. Refuge’s work saves lives and changes lives.

Domestic violence is a huge problem. In fact, it’s the single biggest issue affecting women in this country. One in every four women will experience domestic violence at some point in her life. Two women a week are killed by a current or former partner. And almost 30 attempt suicide every single day due to domestic abuse.

We all have a responsibility to speak up and do our part to help end the shocking and endemic problem of domestic violence. Please show your support and donate now.

£5 could provide an ‘emergency pack’ for a woman who has had to flee her abuser in a crisis situation and arrives at a refuge with nothing but the clothes she is wearing.  These packs contain basic items such as toiletries, nappies and food.

£25 could help pay for child support workers to work with 12 children, helping them to overcome the trauma of experiencing or witnessing abuse.

£100 could allow a woman to be support be an independent domestic violence advocate to help her press charges against her perpetrator .

Marie* escaped an abusive partner and came to Refuge for support. She said:

“I have been welcomed with open arms. The refuge has been my home, and it has changed my whole life. I have changed my outlook on life, the refuge has made me look at things positively. I can’t explain how grateful I am for being here.”

Domestic violence affects everyone.  With one woman in four experiencing abuse at some point in her life, someone you know – a sister, daughter, mother, friend or colleague – could be at real risk.  Support Refuge’s vital work by making a generous donation today and help a woman take the first steps towards a life free from fear.  Thank you.

Please do feel free to email fundraising@refuge.org.uk or call Jessica Madeley from Refuge on 0207 395 7713.

Thank you very much for your kind support.
