Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page
Myself (Maleena) and my mum (Jas) have decided to take on the most monumental charity-challenge to mark ten years of the passing of our beloved Gavin Pone. (1990-2002)
We will be trekking to the top of the highest free-standing mountain in the world, 'MOUNT KILIMANJARO', to honour his memory and raise a significant amount of money for the prevention and cure of childhood leukeamia.
Reaching the summit on 9th September 2012 will not only help the charity-work but also prove that we resiliently continue to push on with the up-hill struggle of coping with our loss as we mark his 'would-be' 22nd Birthday on this day.
Gavin was adventurous, athletic, full of fun - but most of all, he was a fighter. In his short 11 years, he taught us how to smile against all the odds and how strive on in the face of adversity. Therefore, we thought the best way to remember him, honour him and keep his fighting spirit alive was to embark on this immense journey; and prove that we can conquer even the highest of mountains life has to offer, just as we know he would have done had he been alive today.
We hope to help save lives with our £5k donation, but also want to inspire anyone who has lost their loved ones to carry on living, smiling and experiencing the wonders of the world.
Please help us reach our target and dig as deep as you can, and on behalf of my entire family, our heartfelt thanks for your donation. It really will make a difference to more than one life.
Jas, Maleena, Ranj, Laila and of course, Gavin x
