Story
My partner Captain Stephen James "Steve" Healey was a British Army officer with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh, and former professional footballer for Swansea City. He was killed by an improvised explosive device on routine vehicle patrol in the Nahri Saraj District of Helmand province, Afghanistan, on 26 May 2012. Steve was the 415th British fatality in Afghanistan.
In his memory from October 2012 - October 2013 I ran 415 miles in his memory over the year - entering a number of half, full and an ultra marathon - many joined me on some of the events raising money for Blind Veterans U.K. a charity that Steve himself supported.
August 15th I biked along side Colin Jones (ex Royal Welch fusilier pre Steve) from Dover to Bath over 4 days - unfortunately due to bike issues and road closures we were unable to make it too our destination in Chepstow.
We biked Dover to Royal Tunbridge Wells to Aldershot to Tidworth to Bath covering nearly 500km over 4 days. Due to various personal goals and commitments once we hit Chepstow we decided to go our seperate ways.
For those that know me I’m definitely not a quitter and decided to continue and complete my own cycling journey in memory of Steve raising money for Blind Veterans UK along the way.
I continued to cycle around the Welsh coast until I reached Chester Zoo a place Steve and I spent many days when he was based at the Dale Barracks around the corner
I completed the first leg Chepstow to Cardiff on the 21st of August
23rd of August I continued my cycle challenge and complete my second leg of my challenge from Cardiff to Tenby covering approx 150km
I then continued my journey around Pembrokeshire and then follow the coast line up North until I arrived in Chester on Saturday 28th of August - My amazing Mum supported me along the way once I left Pembrokeshire
I completed this challenge in memory of my partner Captain Stephen Healey who was killed in Afghanistan in 2012 - he is most definitely my motivation and drive to complete this challenge in his honour.
Thank you to everyone for your support
