Icelandic Lava Trek 2022

During Lockdown, on the 11th of February, my little sister, Katrina (20 Years Young) took her own life. As a family we have been completely shattered by such a tragic loss, and the course of heartbreaking events that have taken place over the last 11 months.
Katrina went through so much, but despite being an exceptionally talented artist and highly intelligent individual, she lost her battle with life. Katrina remained resilient and strong until the very end. We were so proud of the amazing young woman she grew up to be.
For my second challenge in memory of my little sister Katrina, and in aid of Mind, I shall be trekking 58km through one of the planet’s most volcanic regions and camping in some of Europe’s most unusual terrain. I shall be weaving through vast steaming lava fields, thundering waterfalls, plunging fjords and spouting geysers. This tough route, the phenomenal Landmannalaugar, will include long days and very challenging terrain with steep climbs and rough descents.
I am channelling all of my sadness, frustration and anger into my fundraising and preparations for my first overseas Trek for Mind, to help support the mental health of others as well as my own. Having this challenge to focus on whilst going through the most devastating and challenging time of my life is giving me a purpose as well as helping me with my ongoing grieving process.
I have learnt a lot from the Mind Hike 2021, that will help me with my training for Iceland. Due to the obstacles that I face as a result of having asthma, I am going to focus on my aerobic fitness, with the aim of expanding my lung capacity and increasing my overall stamina.
I want to continue to raise money for Mind as this charity is there for everyone and strives for positive mental wellbeing. Whether you are stressed, depressed or in a crisis they are there for you to listen and give support and advice. It is so empowering to know that vital funds will be raised to aid Mind in their quest to fight for change in mental health services.
My mission is to keep Katrina’s memory alive, raise suicide awareness and to help people with their mental health.
All of your donations for this wonderful cause will be greatly appreciated. Mental Health is so important. Lets do something amazing for others, in Katrina's Memory.
Best Wishes,
