Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

We set up this page in October 2012, in memory of our Mum, the amazing Louise Black.  Sadly, she passed away in September 2012 after a 7 year battle with Brain Cancer, aged only 49.  She loved her life, her family, her friends and her dog!  Through her illness she was a survivor, not a victim, and she would have hated anyone to think otherwise.

She believed in research, treatments, and hoped that one day a cure could be found.  Having had brain surgery twice, she left both her tumours to research.  She felt very passionately about researchers learning from what happened to her and using that knowledge to help others.

We set out in October 2012 to raise enough money to fund a day of research at the Brain Tumour Research centre in the University of Portsmouth.  We succeeded and were able to sponsor Saturday 13th April 2013, the day that would have been our Mum's 50th Birthday. To date, we have raised around £3,000 for the charity outside of personal donations.

Saturday 16th September 2017 will be the 5th anniversary of Mum's passing and we have been thinking about all she has missed out on since this terrible disease took her. She is a Granny now, though you wouldn't dare call her that if she was here, and she has another wonderful son-in-law.

Every Birthday, Christmas and milestone would have been so much brighter if she had been here with us, but we have lived and loved in her honour.  We've found more joy in the little things that so many people take for granted, but that she would have given anything to enjoy with us.

She would never have imagined that we could raise so much for Brain Tumour Research, and it would be wonderful to bring our fundraising total up to £5,000 in memory of her on the 5th anniversary of her passing.

Ruth & Gina xx
