Story
On the evening of May 14, 2020, with a lifetime of keeping fit, I went out for a training cycle and experienced a stroke when a blood vessel exploded in the left side of my brain.
At the same time, my father in law, Tom, was suffering with cancer and the rest of the family was coming to terms with how long Tom would remain with us.
I was discharged from the stroke rehabilitation hospital and with Pippa, my wife, we decided to move in with our in-laws to provide addition care for Tom and respite for June.
Volunteers from Marie Curie visited twice a day to give medical care and guidance on how to manage Tom's palliative care. This enabled me to continue with my rehabilitation with NHS Therapies to aid my recovery.
On the day after the first anniversary of my stroke, I've challenged myself to cycle from East Lothian to North Berwick and then through Mid Lothian to arrive at West Lothian. A total of approximately 58 miles in aid of Marie Curie for the care given to Tom as he reached the end of his life.
