Update by Emma: Once again mission accomplished, but still collecting ..... Despite the hot weather we all managed to get round. Ellen was first of us to rocket past finishing line followed by Ros. Hen girls wore our kitty ears. Mum beat me ... once again. Hats off to the boys too who did Race for Moore in blazing heat too. Dave who ran in Bride to be sash! Rich who practically won it and Kev who ran in Laura's trainers with a big hang over only signing up under peer group pressure 20 mins before the start! What a great day out. Thanks to all our spectators for making the day so special for us. Yummy party food and champers - what a treat. Thanks too to all my team for being so amazing. Roll on next year .... xxxxxxxxxx
Thanks for visiting Team Emma's web page.
Last year we entered the Race for Life following Emma's diagnosis of breast cancer. At 27 this was a massive shock to us all. It has been a rollercoaster year and the Race for Life last year was our way of fighting back and not taking it lying down. There were 49 of us and between us we raised in excess of £10,000.
Emma writes ... "This year I'm in remission and I owe that to the fantastic treatment I am still receiving at the Royal Marsden, Sutton and through research funded by Cancer Research UK. I have seen so many advances in cancer treatment over the past year, but we still need more .... It is thanks to these advancements that I am getting married to Dave in August this year. I really thought I wouldn't see my wedding day - I can't believe I'm still here .... I know I am very lucky. This year I run to say thanks for the fantastic treatment I have received and also for a friend who sadly lost her husband to cancer late last year.
I am worried about doing the Race for Life again. How do we match our amazing fund raising last year and how could I make it more of a challenge for myself. Due to peer group pressure I decided to go for it and have given myself the added challenge of running it. I have never ran a race in my life and last year was only 2 weeks out of surgery when we did it - a perfect excuse for walking!!
So please dig deep and sponsor me and this amazing bunch of women and let us do our bit to make sure we combat cancer for good. If I raise over my target I promise to run in fancy dress - given my impending wedding how about a wedding theme!
Given the huge sponsorship Laura's raising I think it's only right she joins me in fancy dress too! Up for it Laur?
Finally, I just want to mention that we are running inBlackheath as in the afternoon there is a men's race and both Dave and my brother are taking part in that. So do come and watch and thanks to them for being such stars!"
Thanks so much for your support for us and this amazing charity,
Team Emma xxxxxxxxxx
