Story
we did it! :-)
The day of the race was so very hot. Of course, I had forgotten my sun cream and had to ask a nice lady if I could "borrow" a bit of hers so that I didn't fry my face. Luckily, she took pity on me! I actually did the walk with my stepdaughter, Georgia. She is 15 years old, and is a sprinter so of course she is much MUCH fitter than me. I was expecting her to get a bit bored with my slow pace. She didn't, and was an amazing support for me.
The rest of the race took us through some beautiful parts of Oxford that I have never seen before. With the sun and the amazing buildings surrounding us, I could have been somewhere in Europe.
Finally, we neared the finish line, and suddenly I realised that we had done it! I felt so elated because I knew that (a) I had actually done something sporty and would receive a medal (first one in my whole life), and (b) I had managed to raise some money for a charity that is so close to me. It felt so incredible that I didn't want to stop walking. (Just as well really, as John had parked his van in the centre of Oxford and told me to meet him there. Another mile later, and we were reunited!)
Best regards

Hello everyone... Although I am not the fittest of people, I have wanted to do the Race for Life for a very long time (or in my case, the "Walk for Life"!). Those of you who know me well will be aware that my brother has beaten this relentless disease twice in his life and thankfully is now on his road to recovery. I want to do this to give back something; to celebrate and be glad that there were lots of good people involved in giving my brother the right care. It is time to be thankful for my brother, and for all those other survivors. It is time to celebrate the lives of all those who did not win their battle. God bless everyone who has been touched by cancer in some way, and God bless you for helping me on my quest... x
