My Bit
Origionally, for me, ‘Race for Life’ started out as a challenge and abit of fun between me and a few friends to get together and raise money for a brilliant cause.
Back in November 2006, after a routine check, my Auntie discovered she had Cervical Cancer, the cells were very advanced and spread so she had to have the full hysterectomy. Luckily, they seem to have removed it all and she seems to be all clear. My Auntie Lynn has become my inspiration, I want other people to benefit from mine, and everyone else’s donations and hopefully millions of other people will be able to fight cancer.
Unfortunately, just last week, on the 4th April 2007, my Nan was diagnosed with Chest and Lung Cancer, the day before I signed up for ‘Race for Life’. I was told the bad news only yesterday, Easter Sunday. They’ve said they cant operate as the cancer is too close to her heart so she’s going to go and have chemo and hopefully she’ll take to it and hopefully it will shrink it and then we’ll see where we go from there.
It all started with a cold I gave her a few months ago, hers got really bad and progressed into a chest infection and when it didn’t ease up, my Auntie forced her to the doctors where she had xrays and tests. On the xrays they discovered a cloud on her lung so decided to do more tests, that is how it was all discovered. We were very lucky, had it been 6 months later, chemo wouldn’t have been an option.
My Nan is in her 70’s and she’s still like a spring chicken, going to the pub for her lunch every Wednesday with her oldest friend, having an Indian takeaway when I go up to visit and she even goes on ‘girly weekends’ to Blackpool every year and it hurts so much to know what’s happening to her, I wish I could just pull it out of her and get rid of it and I wish she didn’t have to suffer. She is my only remaining Grandparent and I cant imagine life without her.
When I signed up on 5th April 2007 I set my target at £100.00
Today, 9th April 2007, I exceeded my original target, therefore, I shall increase my target to £200 to encourage more people to donate and help raise even more money for Cancer Research .
Now, I ‘Race for Life’ for my Auntie Lynn and My Nanan Joan xxx
