The majority of us will be affected by cancer at some point in our lives - either we will experience it personally, or through friends/family.  By participating in, or sponsoring events such as the Race for Life, we can make a small yet extremely valuable contribution to the research in preventing and treating cancer...research which could one day save your own life, or the life of a loved one.

I am personally taking part in the Race for Life as someone very close to my heart was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare form of cancer a couple of years ago.  Luckily, they were diagnosed at an early stage and they have now been treated successfully thanks to research funded by Cancer Research UK :)

Sadly, many others affected by the disease will not also experience such a positive outcome :( but by continually funding more research by scientists and doctors, we can help more and more people survive cancer!
