Help more people beat cancer
We have really enjoyed completing the Race for Life today. Thank you all for your generous sponsorship which helped us to keep training and is for such a good cause.
Ruth ran the whole 5km in 26 minutes. Carol & Sian ran the down hill and flat bits and fast walked the up hill sections, taking about 36 minutes altogether.
We have added some photos to the page which Mike took of the event.
Sian was diagnosed with breast cancer last June and a friend, Janet Paterson, who had been treated the previous year lent her the Race for Life medal she had just earned. Janet promised Sian that she would be able to give the medal back to her in a year’s time because she would be fit enough by then to earn her own Race for Life medal. Sian is rising to the challenge and, together with daughter Ruth and friend Carol Ramplin, she will be aiming to complete the 5km Race for Life at Stoke Park, Guildford on Sunday 17 June.
Sian and Janet were, in a sense, fortunate because breast cancer is one of the most treatable cancers but the treatment is neither pleasant nor always successful. And there are still so many other cancers for which there is no treatment or where, even with treatment, the outlook is still extremely poor. Cancer Research UK is leading the world in finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are entirely funded by the public and they need your support to us continue their groundbreaking work and help people survive.
