Story

Claire's Story:

Well here we are again. This is my 5th year of running (I use the term loosely) the 5K Race for life.

I started the year my dearest friend was diagnosed with advanced stage prostate cancer. This year it seems unlikely that he will still be with us when I run the race in June.......... 5 years.......  I guess that's not bad, and probably longer than was expected when he was first diagnosed, but it's gone way too quick, and OhMyGoodness I am going to miss him so very, very much, ..... 20 years ago I doubt he would have seen the first year out. Hopefully in another 10 or 20 years we will have made even better progress. And running the race for life is just a little thing I can do to make that dream come true. Every penny helps the research and the support.

Please don't feel you have to sponsor a lot. if everyone I knew just gave us the cost of a cup of coffee (or a pint - depending on your preference) - just £2, we would far exceed our target. (I am just laughing at myself a little at the thought of getting a pint for £2 - I haven't been out in a while! ) But you get my drift - small donations really do add up.

This page is for our family though - Mum, me and my lovely sister will all run the race on the same day, so I will let them each tell their own stories here..........

Update 30/5/11 - Only 3 weeks to go, and my dear friend is still hanging on in there. And still working! Unbelievable. A true inspiration in so many ways.

Update 13/6/11  - Just one week left and despite only being given weeks to live in December, he is still her and still working. That has to be worth every bit of running 5k!

Love to all, - Claire (aka Noo)

JOYCE'S STORY

I run in memory of my first best friend (Madeleine) my best college friend (Gwynneth) My wonderful Brother-in-law, who was always the greatest friend to me.  So many others who have touched my life.

I run for those who have conquered this terrible disease, Tony (prostrate) David (throat) Pat (breast) and lots of others who are still happily in our lives and enjoying theirs.

I run to give others the chance of beating this illness with the help of medical science, to raise money for the research and treatment to keep moving on.

Please donate, it is not the measure of a person to donate a large amount but the measure of them to donate something, even 50p multiplied by all our friends would really make a good donation.

Together we can make a difference.

I run for life.

Thank you XX

Becki's  Story

Race for Life was the event that got me started running. I didn't do it last year because I was concentrating on running longer distances. When I arrived to cheer my sister and my mum on I realised I was missing out on a great fundraising event.  I have heard that this year there are even less people taking part; it's so easy to get complacent but more money is still needed to fund research for the fight against cancer.  Please sponsor our small team; even a small amount will make a difference when it's all added together.

Thank you

xxxx
